Play and discover, ages 8–13
Your child imagines a game, describes it and builds it.
Your child tells Byte what kind of game they want and sees it change right away. They try it, improve it, and open the door to a new world with every mission.
byte is live.
How it works
Their own game in three steps.
They start with an idea, talk to Byte and see the change.
-
Opens countries on the map
Your child opens countries on a world map, and each country brings a game. In Level 2 they rebuild a game they played, step by step.
-
Tells Byte
They write what they want to happen in the game, in their own words.
-
Tries it and improves it
The game changes and your child tries it. Not quite right? They tell Byte again.
Approach
Your child discovers thinking through play.
byte gives children a space to discover not what to think, but how to put what they think into words.
- Breaks it down
- They turn a big idea into small steps, change one thing at a time and see the result.
- Says it clearly
- The better they describe what they want, the easier it is to get the result they want.
- Tries, sees, fixes
- Every try is a new discovery. They look at the result, think it over and decide their next step.
byte does not promise to teach a programming language or to deliver a specific learning outcome. It offers a play-based experience where children can practise giving instructions and solving problems.
World map
Every game is a new adventure.
As your child completes missions, they unlock new countries on the world map.
- Discovered
- Current adventure
- Still locked
A different game is waiting in every country. When your child finishes one, they discover the next adventure.
For parents and teachers
Safety first.
byte is a controlled game environment for children to explore.
-
Ready-made games, controlled changes
Byte does not generate new code. It turns the child’s instructions into preset settings of ready-made games. The games run in a sandboxed frame, apart from the rest of the page.
-
Chat that stays on the game
When a conversation goes off-topic, Byte gently steers the child back to the current mission.
